Dismantling and Moving of Launching Girder New Elbe Bridge Wittenberge

As part of the construction of the new Elbe Bridge in Wittenberge, we were responsible for dismantling and moving a two-part launching girder. Both sections had to be lowered and moved, so they could be reused at the start of the next bridge section.

The total weight of the launching girder was about 500 tons (approx. 250 tons per section).

First, each girder segment was slightly lifted with our strand jack system to release the anchorings. Then we slowly lowered the segments onto temporary support consoles. After lowering, we removed some parts from the girder, which reduced the weight.

The total moved weight was around 400 tons (approx. 200 tons per section). Each segment was moved in a separate run, about 500 meters to the start of the next bridge section.

The main challenges were the uneven ground and the high, offset center of gravity of the oversized load. This made the work harder and needed careful planning for stability and safe movement. The whole job was done in one week.

Equipment used for lowering:

  • 4 pcs. LH200
  • 1 pcs. HPU4-30

Equipment used for moving:

  • 1 pcs. 10-axle SPMT combination (4-axle + 6-axle SPMT)
  • 1 pcs. PPUZ100
