A Milestone for the Region

Rahmede Valley Bridge

The Rahmede Valley Bridge was closed to traffic in December 2021 after deformations were discovered in the bridge structure, making safe operation no longer possible. After extensive inspections, it became clear that a complete replacement of the bridge was required.

By October 2023, the site had been fully cleared and work on the new bridge could begin – including our involvement as Heavy Lift specialists.

The new Rahmede Valley Bridge consists of two separate bridge structures, one for each direction of traffic, supported by a total of eight piers. The steel bridge decks were assembled in temporary launching areas and then pushed section by section into their final position.

Our scope included the execution of the launching operations for both bridge structures. The launching process was carried out from both sides at the same time. While the deck was actively pulled from one side, it was carefully controlled and braked from the opposite side. This allowed all forces acting on the structure to be managed safely and precisely throughout the operation.

The large steel bridge decks were moved into position in several launching stages with millimetre accuracy. This required precise coordination of all systems and continuous monitoring during every step of the process.

Once the launching works were completed, the bridge decks were lowered from the temporary launching equipment onto their permanent bearings using our Heavy Lift systems. With the successful load transfer and final lowering of the bridge structures, our work on the Rahmede Valley Bridge was completed.

With every completed launching stage, the new Rahmede Valley Bridge moved one step closer to completion – and to the restoration of an important connection for the entire region.
